Liposuction

All of us struggle with inherited traits, and perhaps for you, they are what’s keeping you from achieving your desired body shape. Even years of exercise may not give you the results you desire. Liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic surgical procedures designed to help with this problem. It slims and reshapes the body through the surgical process of removing excess fat deposits from key areas of your body.

LIPOSUCTION TECHNIQUES MAY BE USED TO REDUCE LOCALIZED FAT DEPOSITS IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:

  • Thighs
  • Hips & buttocks
  • Abdomen & waist
  • Upper arms
  • Back
  • Chest area
  • Cheeks, chin, & neck
  • And more

What To Expect During A Liposuction Procedure

Liposuction surgery can help you if you have trouble reducing fat in certain areas despite diet, exercise or even successful weight loss. The concept of a liposuction procedure is fairly simple. Liposuction is a surgical technique that improves the body contour by removing the excess fat from various body parts that sit between the skin and the muscle.

Prior to the procedure, your liposuction goals will be discussed realistically with our doctors. Together you will decide which procedures are best for you to achieve your desired results, being mindful that liposuction is used to remove fat from the abdomen, buttocks, inner and outer thighs, hips, waist, love handles, and knees.

For your safety and comfort, you will be asleep under general anesthesia during your procedure. The surgeon performs the procedure by inserting a slim, hollow tube, (also known as a cannula), into small incisions near the area(s) to be contoured and shaped. The cannula is then moved through the layers of tissue to remove excess fat. Once the fat has been removed, your surgeon will suture the incision closed.

The Recovery Process For Liposuction

Following your liposuction procedure, you will want to move around, increasing your circulation as soon as possible. Your sutures will be removed approximately 1 week following surgery. Most swelling and bruising should subside in 3-6 weeks. However, it is possible that some swelling may last up to 6 months. You may resume light activities within a few days and full exercise at 4-6 weeks. Compression garments are required to be worn following the surgery for 4-6 weeks to help reduce swelling, fluid retention, and to shape your new curves.

LIPOSUCTION FAQS

Our patients undergoing liposuction often have questions about their upcoming procedure, many regarding the cost, what to expect and more. Please review the questions and answers provided by our surgical team below. If you have further questions, contact our office today!

What are compression garments and why do I need to wear them?

Compression garments are intended for various reasons. First to reduce bruising immediately after surgery, and second to reduce swelling while the body is healing. Most surgeons require patients wear an elastic compression garment for a certain length of time after liposuction. This will be discussed with each patient, as everyone heals differently.

What is the cost of liposuction?

The cost of liposuction depends on how many areas are treated. When only one area is treated by liposuction the fee is less than when multiple areas are treated.

What are realistic long term expectations of liposuction surgery?

Liposuction results are permanent, unless you gain or lose a significant amount of weight after surgery. The common belief is that Liposuction makes you gain weight in other areas. The truth is that the area that has been suctioned does not gain as much as the surrounding areas, so it may appear that there is an indention in the suctioned area after weight gain.

Is there pain or discomfort after liposuction surgery?

Most patients will experience soreness the first few days after the liposuction. Two days immediately after liposuction, the amount of pain experienced depends on the type of anesthesia used for liposuction. Soreness is usually the most intense for 2 to 4 days and then decreases steadily. This can be bothersome for up to 2-3 weeks, but most patients can resume full activity after a month.

How will my skin look after liposuction surgery? Does Liposuction produce visible scars?

Skin with good elasticity should look smooth and natural post liposuction surgery. Scars are not a common problem with modern liposuction because it uses small cannulas. Very small incisions are required.
