We first begin with a consultation with one of our skilled plastic surgeons, where they discuss your goals and perform a physical examination of the face to determine exactly what must be corrected to achieve optimum results.
On the day of your facial plastic procedure, general anesthesia medications will be administered for your comfort and to help you feel safe. A facelift incision often begins in the hairline at the temples, continues around the ear, and ends in the lower scalp. Fat may be redistributed from the face, jowls, and neck, and underlying tissue is repositioned. Deeper layers of the face and the muscles are also lifted. Skin is redraped over the uplifted contours, and excess skin is trimmed. A second incision under the chin may be necessary to further improve an aging neck. The incisions are then closed.
What to Expect After Your Facelift Procedure
The visible improvements of a facelift appear as swelling and bruising subside. A bandage is placed around the face to help minimize swelling and bruising and small tubes may be present to draw off any excess blood or fluid.
It may take several months for swelling to fully dissipate and up to 6 months for the incision lines to mature. Once healed, the incision lines are well concealed within the hairline and in the natural contours of the face and ear. Your final result should restore a more youthful and rested appearance.
